Definitely going to try this drill. I had really improved with my driver after using your vid about how to hit a draw. Unfortunately its all gone wrong again and I have lost all consistency of strike, I'm skying it, hooking, slicing, you name it. Now I'm just scared every time I get the big stick out.

Hi Adam. I just started playing golf 3 months ago and I was looking for some decent clubs for me to purchase and use. The ones that I was previous using were Orlimar irons and I have been so frustrated with them since day 1. I couldn't hit consistent shots with my short irons and my long irons are missing distances. I tried using the ap2 and jpx900 forged and my god I have seen major changes in both feel and performance. I came to know with other players that I should stick to performance irons and not go for the ap2 and jpx forge as they require a player to be at least a mid handicapper. Is this true? Should I stick to performance irons even tho I cannot hit them consistently or should I go for clubs that I feel confident in even tho (as what they have stated) not in par with my handicap range?
Scratch Golf Academy
Scratch Golf Academy - 3 years ago
Thanks for the comment. I'm not really a club fitting expert, but I'd say the AP 2 irons would be OK (if you like them). They are 'mid game-improvement' clubs, which you should be able to handle. I use Callaway's version of 'mid game-improvement' clubs these days. I'm a bit old and feeble now and they suit me fine. We'd be coming at the same thing from opposite ends.

Thanks for a great video. I seem to be finding that if I just swing to finish in balance I hit the ball very well for an old guy. Should I try and do exactly the same thing with my irons or are they swung differently?
Scratch Golf Academy
Scratch Golf Academy - 3 years ago
+Daniel Lux
Daniel, thanks for the comment. Overall I'd say they are swung the same. The irons need more impact shaft lean (downward hit), but maybe the same thought that's working for your driver will work with irons too.

Adam, All of a sudden my son is hitting his drives, with the driver, into the ground anywhere from 6-12 inches in front of the tee. They are hit so hard they are causing long "divots" in the ground and they roll 50 yards forward. What could be causing this?

+Scratch Golf Academy thanks
Scratch Golf Academy
Scratch Golf Academy - 3 years ago
Ken,
If you mean the settings some of the new drivers have, then yes, they can be a factor. No matter what you set them to though you still have to swing the club in a very large arc at high speed, and control face alignment near impact. This takes feel and developed skill. The adjustment in the club should be made so that it's easiest for you to do this.
Hope this helps a bit.

Love your videos Adam. Quick question..... trying to find a particular video of yours that was so helpful ..... you show Rory as an of how the club head is so far behind him, thereby creating a huge arc on the downswing and then you mention beating a carpet or skipping a stone in down the line type view. Which video? Changed my whole concept of the downswing but need to keep reviewing. Thanks.

Joshua Mclean
Joshua Mclean - 3 years ago
Hi Adam,
The driver drills you have up have helped me to reduce the amount of times I push my drives to the right. However, I generally swing the driver at 80-90% as if I swing at 100% I loose control and push the ball to the right. It starts on target line but ends up way right whenever I bring my club speed up. I'm having to use my 3 wood more often to reduce the amount of push I get or reduce my swing speed just to get my driver straighter. This is obvious taking distance off my drive.
Any tips?
Josh
Scratch Golf Academy
Scratch Golf Academy - 3 years ago
Joshua,
It sounds like you are a decent player with a fair amount of clubhead speed? If this is the case the hips generally drive too much causing the club to drop in and get stuck behind you approaching impact. Unless you roll the face enough the shot tends to flare right. There are a lot of possibilities, so it's hard to be definitive as to what's happening past that. Hope this helps.

Question. I'm not consistent with my driver, my problem is I don't stay on plane most of the time, and my balls hook to the left. I'm Ok with all of my other clubs and irons, but I'm terrible with the driver. My set-up is correct, it's when I swing, the ball doesn't take flight and it hooks left about 100 yards. By the way. I was able to drive on average 200 yards, but when I tried to get extra yardage, I messed something up, and now, I'm terrible on the tee. HELP!!!
