I have never been a long hitter of any driver (+- 25 drivers played over the years) but always down the middle of the fairway. I'm a 4 handicap at age 72. I bought the Arrow Burner after watching your reviews ($75.00 off eBay). After 36 holes and no practice, this driver is 20-30 yards farther than my SLDR, Big Bertha, Cobra Amp and my old FTIQ. The shaft is a regular flex 50gm shaft where as my other drivers had a stiff shaft. Thus, I am off the fairway on about twenty percent of the drives. Teeing height and ball placement are still an issue with this longer and lighter shaft club. But the most amazing thing is I've hit it all over the club face and lost no actual distance just minor direction. This is truly an amazing club that no one talks about these days. This is the driver JV Singh used for years on tour. I feel a player of any handicap can enjoy this over all the "new" drivers with the myriad of adjustments. Taylor Made a great driver in the Arrow Burner but for marketing moved quickly to new adjustable M1's and M2's. After all they really don't want Mister average golfer opting for a $75 used Arrow Burner in place of a $499 M1 or $399 M2. I just say if your having distance issues try the Arrow. If it doesn't work you can always resale it on eBay.

Love your videos, keep up the good work. I just purchased this driver and I went from a club head speed of 95 to 97-100 mpg. My previous longest drive was with my Mizuno driver, MX 560, with a distance of 262 yards. With my new TaylorMade AeroBurner 10.5 I hit one on the fly about 250 and it went for a total of 282. My mouth dropped open. I'm surprised that this driver hasn't gotten more attention.

Very impressive results. I just ordered the 12 degree with a regular shaft to replace my HL Rocketballz. Looking for a little more clubbed speed and distance. I have a 8.2 index HC and I can't hit the ball that far.

That is one extremely accurate 13 handicap golfer. If you can hit the ball 250+ down the middle like that he must must have a terrible short game to get to a 13 handicap.
Adam Mohr
Adam Mohr - 4 years ago
oh i know trust me..lol if i can 2 putt or better i close in on 80s..i always say im great with my wedges cause i never hit the green..lol my problems are always when I have a good round going that one blow up hole where I put up like a 8-9 or 10 and then things fall apart..

two weeks ago I shot a 42 on a tough nickaluas designed links course going out..then double bogey + on the back nine ending with a 53 coming in..I was beside myself..
but thats what makes golf fun i guess
boskey10
boskey10 - 4 years ago
+Adam Mohr Driving is the key to tournament play and for the most part us amateurs. That's what sets us up for approach shots. But always keep in mind, if we can't putt consistently and confidently, birdies and pars will be non exsistent. Believe me on that.
Adam Mohr
Adam Mohr - 4 years ago
lol my game exactly..Ill add to always take the water out of play even if it means hitting an iron..sometimes though while out playing its fun to just go for it and try those hero shots..I consistently shoot in the 90s on difficult courses by doing most of what you listed..I then just shot a 108 on a very tight course yesterday and needless to say I need a new driver after 8 OB's..the course wasnt setup well..fairways 15 yds wide with real dense tall grass/woods next to short rough so anything not in the middle of the fwy is OB..
boskey10
boskey10 - 4 years ago
+tmc01 I know what you mean, I'm a 10hc and it's really difficult to play consistently. But I realized the only way to break 80 is to do these four things. 1. Do not 3 putt. 2. Stay out of bounds/hazards. 3. No hero shots to compensate for bad ones and try not to get d-bogeys or worse. If everyone could do that, 8 to 9 hc could be possible. Easier said then done I might add lol.
Tony
Tony - 4 years ago
+boskey10 very true. I reckon I'd be a 8-9 HC if it wasnt for the inevitable double bogey I always seem to get due to a bad tee shot on a short par 4...
boskey10
boskey10 - 4 years ago
It's about being consistent, if you watch his drives half of them miss the fairway and slice. I can drive it 280 to 300 no problem with a 4 year old king cobra x speed. The thing is though I will have 9 to 12 really good drives in a round but it's always that 1 or 2 that screws me up. Golf is always about playing what's in front of you, not what you did in the past.
Mr Unknown
Mr Unknown - 4 years ago
I can say that it is mainly about the amount of years and rounds you have played... Some people are able to play like the 8 handicappers 1-3/6 of the rounds but not having a time to drop their handicaps or even play golf that much....

of course AeroBurner is the winner it's got 0.75" longer shaft than other drivers :D TM and their tricks, they did it again...:D (Mizuno, Cobra, Titleist r the best - longest/ most consistent)
Kevin Lu l Storm Chasing
Kevin Lu l Storm Chasing - 3 years ago
If you use basic math to calculate centripetal velocity. You'd know that an extra 0.75 inch will only increase club head speed by 1 mph. Rob was swinging 3-4 mph higher than other drivers. Also rob hit it much further because he launched at 17 degrees with 2000 spin

Rick can you answer this question has been bugging me, since I came back to golf after 15 yrs from spinal injury. I used to play off 2 h/cap now am off 13.1h/cap, down from 27 h/cap, since my return 5 months ago. Do you think I need a stiff flex in my driver or do you think I should keep my regular flex my swing speed is around 70 - 80 klms, I have not been fitted for my Callaway RAZR X irons & my woods are driver FT Optiforce 10.5 & FT Optiforce 3wood 15, both regular graphite shaft, stnd, lengths.
Will it make any or no  difference to my game if I move up to stiff shafts. Peter D.

+Robert Potter I was intrigued by your test but I was in doubt whether it would work for me. After a few months of thinking about it, in the end I decided to have a go with an Aeroburner driver. I got s standard 9.5 deg stiff, the same one you used without custom fitting. My driver distance is usually around 210-240 depend on the time of year. Last Saturday on a far 5, I drove 285 yard! I actually run out of fairway (being slight dog left). I could not believe and was over the moon! I wonder whether i should have gone to custom fitting. Anyways, thanks for the video.

Thanks for the info. It is very relevant for us with less than tour swing speeds. As these new clubs have move the cg forward I would like to see how actually forgiving these various clubs are - low spin without sufficient moi to find the fairway on mishits may not be the answer for the most of us. Look forward to your comments and keep up the good work.

Looking forward to seeing Rob in many more videos....a golfer I can really relate to ! However, having cut down a 46 inch driver and seen real benefits in terms of accuracy and even distance, I'd counsel against the pig ugly 45.75 inch Aeorothingamebob instead of the 45 inch Mizuno. If you keep hitting drives on a range over a session you'll  get better at hitting the middle of the club....a lot different when on the course.

Rob and Rick, really have enjoyed your driver reviews for the 13 and up handicap hackers, for which I proudly hold a membership card. The higher loft with stiff shaft intrigues me. Rob, that Aero seems a perfect fit for you, but how can that be? Rick, what's going on with Rob and that club. Would he hit it amazingly better with his usual 10.5 and regular shaft? I think many of us will be going to our fitters looking for stiff shafts and high lofts... and quite possibly it is the arrow and not the archer. Great series!
metamurph
metamurph - 5 years ago
just as a little bit on why maybe this works from looking at other reviews on the club is perhaps the stiff shaft gets him to the right spin rate as this is kind of a spin prone club to help the slower swinger get the ball up, plus the stiffer shaft weighs a bit more it just makes a combo that matches up perfectly to the swing tempo and speed he can achieve with the club.  I love these "every man" kind of reviews and the quick compare.  I would have loved a two rounder though, narrow to top two or three and then go around again for the final but that was a huge difference and great consistency...now just wait 4 months for the next color way and it could be perfect :-)

REDairsoft UK
REDairsoft UK - 5 years ago
reg flax is clearly the wrong flex for this chap...the 850 driver is clearly the best driver as its not built for club head speed but seems to be consistently longer AND STRAIGHTER...a signature that RS forgot when he tested the Mizuno....I'd happily lose 5-15 yards if i'd hit the fairway more consistantly....the tailor-made can only be custom fit to how your swinging now....your never going to increase your clubspeed to warrant going to a stronger flex when it comes to consistancy....however....the ability to change loft and lie with same performance (when swing adjustment according lessons come into play) would be a serious advantage...Mizuno is the driver for Rob....100% want an extra 10 yards, ask for a longer shaft. the upcharge is next to nothing....

+REDairsoft UK +jtpopetx thanks for your thoughts again.
Adjustable drivers do have a place for us Amateur golfers, but the problem being, once it's set in a particular setting and shots start to go errant, it's easy for the golfer to further exaggerate the fault buy tweeking those settings even more. Making the void of inconsistency worse.
The good old days of "hit what you bought" isn't necessarily a bad thing still.
It should make the Amateur golfer then go to his/her pro to try and improve the swing and iron out the fault without it artificially moulding the result.
I'm actually REALLY torn between the two concepts, as I see worth in them both and especially to where I am in my development now.
jtpopetx
jtpopetx - 5 years ago
+REDairsoft UK good dialogue, I really liked Rick s idea with this video, hard for the mid handicapper to accurately compare with so many options, and so much similarity. You commented about the 850, I thought same could be said for 915..
REDairsoft UK
REDairsoft UK - 5 years ago
Very interesting thoughts and a strong argument for shelf clubs...but the fact remains that without the capabilities of "on the spot" fine tuning, you could not maximise the potential of the club....i'm willing to bet the aeroburner will not see a tour bag over its bro R15 due to this very fact! I think your comment in one of the videos "why are they giving me the wrench?" is probably the best comment out there...handicap players should just get properly fitted and then remove the ability to adjust the driver themselves.
Rob Potter Golf
Rob Potter Golf - 5 years ago
Over the ball the look is stunning. I do like it's versatility with what can be changed I must admit.
But this is where I am stuck in a corner, as I feel adjustability can and in many cases, is a distraction.
Too much blame can be put on the settings and not the mug whose hitting it.
A few bad shots and folk start to play about, and get themselves in a right mess.
Where as off the shelf clubs like the Aero Burner I think, are more beneficial as it makes you sort out your fundamentals for poor shots.
I literally am tied between the two.
REDairsoft UK
REDairsoft UK - 5 years ago
I dont doubt that....i'm speaking of the ever sort after length and distance.....surely looking at it....the 850 is the choice for you...not just on performance but standing over the ball as well??
Rob Potter Golf
Rob Potter Golf - 5 years ago
It was actualy the G30 I believe that was the straighter in the tests.
But I do like the Mizuno LOTS for its over all looks and versitility.
As i said in the videos though, having all the adjustability can only lead to confusion, coz I guarentee you, many amatures will change the settings (once fitted) if they start to have poor results. This only gets folks into knots.
thats why I love the simplicity of the Aero Burner.

Gents,  good job and thanks for sharing.  I am not surprised to see the AeroBurner giving the fastest club head speed.  With contact club head speed always rules distance.  I would dare say that the shorter Mizuno should be more consistent more often.

Rob, you must have been middling a lot of those clubs!  Awesome to be that consistent with a driver.

Rob Potter Golf - 5 years ago

I was a decent day on the ball striking. But showed on this final video, that when I or any amature that that matter, starts to really go at it, your dispersion levels get worse.

+2468Bubbly well I'd still like to get custom fitting for a Driver. I really do think its important. ok, with an "off the shelf" club like the Aero Burner, there isn't much you can do, apart from play around with various shafts, or try different heads with loft. Great video.......would be interesting to see if the longest ( Mizuno & TM ) are also as good in the accuracy department. No good being 50+ yards longer but playing out sideways because you're in the trees, or like T Woods out of bounds !!
Could Rob get used to the White head or will he give it a coat of go faster black ??

+John Cordall as I said in the vids buddy, the White head does nothing for me at all. To be honest, in the testing both the Mizuno and the Aero Burner was very accurate for me. The Ping G30 I think was the best, but I was prety dissapointed in that clubs for its distance, feel & sound.

It's a long road to recovery ain't it? I'm just glad I had Family, Golf & Heavy Metal! It got me through the hard times ☺

and to you Rob. It really helped me watching you swing believe it or not. Your swing is simple but very functional and it appears we're about the same height and we have to swing more around our bodies but you were great. My distance isn't up with yours but I hope to get close at least. I've had two rotator cuff surgeries in the past and a ripped abdominal muscle just a couple years ago so I  put on weight while I was laid up and lost muscle tone so I hope to work my way back. Anyway sorry to be so long winded but you've inspired me and I thank you for that. Keep up the great work.

+Robert Potter Rob I'm like you, I will and have passed by white drivers, I just cannot get past the white. But at Edwin Watts in Nashville a couple of days ago the fitter there told me the Aero Burner is coming out in black very soon so I'm to be fitted with that when it comes. But strangely my club head speed was faster with the Mizuno JPX 850, 92-97. Loved seeing you on here Rob, you're a pleasure to watch.
